NC Restaurant Chain to Compete for Title of “Best Dish in North Carolina”

Four Oaks - White Swan BBQ has been named as a finalist in the 2nd annual Best Dish in North Carolina competition. The restaurant was named as a finalist in the Chain category, one of the three categories being judged in the competition. To qualify as a chain, a restaurant must have at least three or more locations within North Carolina - this can include franchises and restaurants whose home offices are not in North Carolina.

White Swan BBQ ( is based out of Four Oaks, NC and has 8 locations in eastern North Carolina. The qualifying dish was the BBQ Cocktail. The dish will be featured from May 7 through June 4 at all participating locations.

The Best Dish in North Carolina competition, sponsored by Goodness Grows in North Carolina, is now in its second year of existence. The statewide competition determines who serves the best fare in North Carolina in each of three categories: Casual Dining, Fine Dining, and Chain. The competition was created to recognize and reward the efforts of restaurants and chefs who use North Carolina products regularly in their menus and to increase public awareness of the quality of food, restaurants, and chefs here in North Carolina.

Three distinguished judges from North Carolina’s food service industry have chosen finalists from each of the three categories based on their use of North Carolina products and ingredients, creativity, and feature and promotion of the dish. Competition finalists are required to feature the dish in their restaurant for a period of at least four weeks during the months of May, June, and July. During this time period, judges will visit each finalist to sample the dishes and make a final judgment based on presentation and taste. First, second, and third place winners will be announced in August. Winners will receive a cash prize, publicity in conjunction with Goodness Grows and its Got to Be NC campaign, and the opportunity to demonstrate their award-winning dish at the 2007 North Carolina State Fair.

Be sure to visit White Swan BBQ and sample their featured dish so that you can give them your own taste test. Visit to cast your vote for your favorite North Carolina dish and to get more information on all of the competition finalists.
